The Owl House
The Owl House is a stunning award winning Eco-build designed and built by my friend, Leonardo Pinel Alvarez, in 2011. In 2015, it won George Clarke's 'Amazing Spaces Shed of the Year' Competition. The Owl House sits at the top of the garden where it overlooks a panorama of Hightown dunes, the ships coming and going in the distance and beautiful sunsets.
I also rent out a room within my bungalow. Guests comment on how comfortable the driftwood bed is. The guest room is cosy and has its own private shower and toilet, which is adjacent to your room. The Owl House is the prefect place for relaxation, it is a stunning eco build at the end of the garden overlooking the sea. Perfect place for a quiet romantic snuggle, a space to write, or just quiet contemplation. For more information or to book, please click here. |
The Slipper HouseThe Slipper House was built 5years after retiring from a competitive world of wheelchair sports and the busy lights of London. I gave it all up for the peace and tranquility of the coast. All I wanted to do was to plant and get creative making a garden.
Inspired very much by Dereck Jarman's unique space on the wild flat empty land of Dungeness, I got working with the sandy soil, harsh salt winds and started to work with what there. The elements dictated what grew and what clearly could not survive. My friend Tim Cole created and built the Slipper House. It is made totally from recycled timbers and other materials, salvaging where ever he could. Doors and windows from skips. I soon perfected the art of straightening used nails! It took 63 days to build, but was created over 7 months during the winter, starting in late September and finishing in the spring. This is my favourite space. It is in the heart of the garden. When you're in it, you're very aware of the surrounding nature. I can watch the birds. It's still & magical. |
